Protect your vision on time

Computer-use eyestrain

Staring at your computer screen, smart phone, video game or other digital devices for long periods won’t cause permanent eye damage, but your eyes may feel dry and tired. Some people also experience headaches or motion sickness when viewing 3-D, which may indicate that the viewer has a problem with focusing or depth perception.

What are causes?

  • Normally, humans blink about 18 times a minute, but studies show we blink half that often while using computers and other digital screen devices, whether for work or play.
  • Extended reading, writing or other intensive “near work” can also cause eyestrain.

 

What to do:

  • Sit about 25 inches from the computer screen and position the screen so your eye gaze is slightly downward.
  • Reduce glare from the screen by lighting the area properly; use a screen filter if needed.
  • Post a note that says “Blink!” on the computer as a reminder.
  • Every 20 minutes, shift your eyes to look at an object at least 20 feet away, for at least 20 seconds: the “20-20-20” rule.
  • Use artificial tears to refresh your eyes when they feel dry.
  • Take regular breaks from computer work, and try to get enough sleep at night.

Computer-use eyestrain can be made worse by:

Sleep deprivation. When you get less sleep than you need, your eyes may become irritated.

During sleep our eyes rest for an extended period and are replenished by nutrients. Ongoing eye irritation can lead to swelling and infection, especially if you wear contact lenses.

  • If you have to be at your computer for a marathon work session, take regular rest breaks or “power naps,” if possible.
  • Apply a washcloth soaked in warm water to tired, dry eyes (with eyes closed).
  • Use tired or sore eyes as a signal that it’s time to stop working and get some rest or sleep.

abstract-19141_1920Incorrect contact lens use. If you wear contact lenses, it’s important that you use and care for them properly — especially if you use a computer and other digital-screen devices often. This helps avoid eye irritation, swelling, infection and vision problems.

  • Give your eyes a break: wear your glasses!
  • Don’t sleep in your contact lenses, even if they are labeled “extended wear.”
  • Always use good cleaning practices.

There are some important things to keep in mind when cleaning your contact lenses. You should:

  • Avoid touching the lenses with water; use fresh solution every time for cleaning and storing.
  • Rub your contacts when you clean them, even if you use a no-rub solution.
  • Clean your storage case regularly (with fresh solution, not water) and replace it every 2 to 3 months.
  • Stop wearing your contact lenses and see an ophthalmologist (Eye M.D.) right away if you develop any of these problems: Eyes that are red, blurry, watery, sensitive to light, or sore; eye swelling or discharge.

KalemegdanTura-BeogradWhether you are coming to Belgrade for the first or the umpteenth time, your attention will certainly attract Kalemegdan – fortress which proudly rises above the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers.

 

The story of Mehmet Pasha’s Fountain

At Kalemegdan, hidden a bit from the main pedestrian routes, in the shade of plane trees, the fountain of Mehmet Pasha Sokolović is located. It was built in the second half of the sixteenth century as a memorial to a very important event from this period.

 

Namely, Sultan Suleiman in 1566 led the great battle to conquer the current Hungarian fortress named Siget. The first sultan’s vizier was then Mehmet Pasha Sokolović.

 

The Turkish army was more numerous, but the battle protracted and soldiers` military morale was declining. Unfortunately, Sultan Suleiman dies of natural death in his tent. Mehmet Pashal continued to give all commands, and, in order to avoid spreading the news of the death of the sultan that would endanger the outcome of the battle, Pasha decided to make up the dead sultan and drove him through the Turkish camp every day. The battle ended with the victory of the Turks and the vizier sent a horseman to Istanbul to call the Sultan Selim`s son to come to Belgrade, to Kalemegdan to meet there.

 

At the place where the fountain is today, Selim learned that his father was dead and that he becomes Sultan instead of the Sultan.

 

An important event during that time, of course, but more important is that the faithful servant Mehmet Pasha – from the moment of death of the Sultan Selim to the surrendering of authorities – made decisions independently and always faithfully to Turkish empire. He had no dilemma whether to serve the dead sultan as best as he can or not. All this is interesting knowing that the vizier was originally Serb, who was taken as a Janissary to Turkey to serve there.

 

The fountain was erected by faithful vizier to enhance passengers and curiously surprise them with an interesting story.

Therefore, without a doubt, visit this fountain at Kalemegdan: you might find that a tree that loomed over it can discover some more unusual secret stories!

  • Bad breath is caused by many physiological and pathological factors: food, smoking, dental caries, gum disease, diseases of the sinuses and respiratory tract, diabetes, leucosis, the use of certain drugs …
  • In most cases, it can be eliminated by maintaining good oral hygiene

Causes of bad breath

  • All diseases of the respiratory system affect the breath, because the nose is associated with the oral cavity
  • The diet affects on the breath. It is interesting that in some individuals hunger can cause bad breath, which ceases after eating. If you eat mostly fat and protein and have low-carb diets, bad breath may be caused by the products of their degradation in the intestines. Bringing some foods cause a distinctive breath
  • This is because the smell of food is mainly eliminated from the body through the lungs, and is present in every breath.
  • Due to the similar ways of elimination through the lungs, some medications also interfere with the breath. The smell of the drug feels after using certain antibiotics, chloral hydrate, iodine and morphine preparations.
  • Inform your dentist
  • If the dental hygiene is not maintained regularly, ie. if you do not wash your teeth/if isn’t used dental floss, food scraps is going to linger, causing the production of bacteria between teeth, around the gums and on the tongue. This causes bad breath.

Mouthwash can also help in reducing bacteria. Smoking or chewing gum on the basis of tobacco may be the culprits of bad breath and stains on your teeth, irritated gums or reduction of taste

  • Bad breath that is gritty or bad taste in the mouth can be a warning sign of periodontal disease (gum disease)
  • They are caused by the buildup of plaque on the teeth and the bacteria that produce toxins that irritate the gums. If this condition is not treated on time, can permanently damage the gums and jaw
  • Problems with the breath can also be caused by poor swept dental restorations such as crowns and bridges, or the formation of dental caries
  • Dry mouth (xerostomia) can also cause bad breath. Saliva is necessary to wet the mouth, neutralize acids produced by plaque, and washed away the dead cells that accumulate on the tongue, gums and mucous membrane of the mouth.

If not removed, these cells will disintegrate and cause bad breath. Dry mouth can be a side effect of some medications, salivary gland problems or constant mouth breathing

  • Decayed and broken teeth, residual roots and periodontal pockets are the perfect place for keeping food, which decay time, which creates a very unpleasant odor.

How to eliminate bad breath?

Four simple tips for effectively removing odor:

  1. At least twice a day to clean the underside of the tongue, because here to develop bacteria that cause bad breath. This can be done with a toothbrush and toothpaste enriched fluorine
  2. Use a regular mouthwash containing chlorine dioxide. Vodice without these chemicals do not kill bacteria. Excellent eluent is St. John’s wort.
  3. Eat solid foods such as fresh vegetables, because it causes friction in the mouth and thus managed to “scrape” bacteria from the tongue
  4. We should not skip meals, because when it does, compounds called ketones build up in the blood and take to the mouth with a very unpleasant smell
  • There are a number of opportunities to eliminate bad breath, and it all boils down to the discovery of its cause,
  • If it is caused by some systemic disease, it can be removed only by treating the underlying disease
  • If the pathological process in the oral cavity, or the reason for the occurrence of odor rotten and broken teeth should contact the dentist as soon as possible
  • If the cause is poor oral hygiene, tobacco or alcohol, serving with these bad habits will solve and breath.
  • Solutions for mouthwashes often contain alcohol, which can further dry out the oral cavity, however, recommend the use of non-alcoholic preparations
  • Herbal medicines which can be used for rinsing the mouth are: sage tea, mint, St. John’s wort, a cup of green or black tea refreshes your breath because it contains polyphenols, which prevent the formation of bacteria which causes odor
  • in order to maintain dental hygiene it is important what kind of toothbrush we use. It is recommended to use interdental brush (used to clean between the teeth) and oral showers Waterpik
  • For dry mouth it is recommended to take a lot of liquid and acidic juices (squeezed lemon, orange), candy and other acidic foods to stimulate the secretion of saliva.
  • To remove the odor can be used different means in the form of deodorant spray or mouthwash.

Fresh breath is a measure of personal hygiene and self-care.

Therefore, do everything in your power to be remembered after a pleasant breath of mouth.
